She, luckily, grabbed the other cup tight so she was at least able to save this one. Looking up, she caught a face of a Gorn! She was always afraid of Gorns, partly because they felt really cold and partly because of their brute prowess... they never really rubbed her the right way... "Sorry" she quickly murmured in her chin and ran out of the lounge, to get onto the meeting. The last thing she saw was that he was telling her something, but she couldn't really hear what it was. She hoped she wouldn't have any issues with him. When she got inside, most of the seats were already taken, although Captain and First Officer still weren't there. She sighed out of relief, she obviously wasn't late. She felt a bit weird... she was sad for Kevras, she never had the opportunity to meet him better. On another side, she felt bad working behind the backs of the crew for her own reasons, although the fact that her orders never crossed with her side allegiance meant a lot to her, because she could make herself believe she didn't do anything wrong for these people, thus never betraying them in the first place. She sipped a little bit of coffee while trying to glimpse around, hoping to figure what the meeting is going to be about. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Lounge, CEO, LCDR Steven Matrix. Day 1, 0959) Matrix had entered the lounge a few minutes after leaving the observation deck...slightly behind schedule as he usually enjoyed getting to meetings early. Steve took a place near the back of the room. The somber mood of the group was somewhat elevated at the news of several promotions. Matrix took great satisfaction and admiration for Anderson, Sanok and especially his old friend Tom Jackson. The Captain spoke briefly about an apparent increase in shore leave and as the group broke up he approached Tom to give his congratulations. "Tom, nicely done...Commander! Congratulations." said Matrix extending his hand and patting Tom on the back at the same time. (Reply Jackson) "I don't know really. I was thinking of heading back to Earth for a bit, but I feel guilty not checking in on the Rose. My plans are...well...up in the air. I may just take advantage of the resources on the station and stay until we're ready to get under way." replied Matrix. (Reply Jackson) "Sure thing...enjoy that promotion Sir!" replied Matrix. (Reply Jackson - IFW) Matrix turned and disappeared among the group exiting the lounge and headed to his assigned quarters. With no solid plans Matrix decided to contact his parents on Earth. (Reply Jackson, any) (Posted by Steve) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Lounge, FO/CSec Lt. Cmdr. Sanok, Day 1, 1000) At precisely 1000 hours, Sanok and Ben entered the lounge for the meeting, Ben entering first, with Sanok two steps behind. It was a typical room for a meeting, with a rectangular table, and chairs for a dozen others, with a more prominent one at the head. To the side was a table with various refreshments. Everyone was present, with some already seated, some at the food table, and others off talking. When the senior staff saw Sanok and Ben, everything went quiet, and each person moved to be seated. Sanok reflected on the past, thinking of the many briefings and meetings he and Ben had attended together. First it was on the Dennison, where they had met. When that ship was decommissioned, they both transferred to the Mithrandir. They ended up on the Rosenante, working their way through the ranks. Now as CO and FO, it was sometimes difficult to comprehend where the time had gone, and how so much had changed. It was the way of things. When meetings and briefings had been called, there was an unspoken competition between Sanok and Ben to see which of them would arrive first. Ben won most of the time, but Sanok would often let him. As far as Sanok knew, Ben did not know this. For that matter, it was possible Ben didn't even know they were competing. Sanok wanted to chuckle, inwardly of course, but he suppressed the urge. He merely stood beside his captain and friend, hands clasped behind his back, waiting to begin. (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Lounge, CO, Captain Ben Soma, Day 1, 1002) Ben entered the lounge a couple steps ahead of Sanok, he let me beat him again he thought. They had meet years ago after he had graduated the academy and was posted to the Dennison, they became friends not that long after. He took a moment to reflect on their past together, they had shed blood together and saved each others lives more that he cared to recall. Then they became separated after Ben had fallen into a coma, after waking he had learned of Sanok's transfer. Not long after that he took a leave of absence and was taken hostage, who should be the one to rescue him but Sanok. After that Ben transferred to the Rose, now he was the CO and Sanok was the FO. It had been an unexpected turn of events. He moved to the head of the table to call the meeting to order, he placed a small wooden box on the table in front of him before speaking. Once everyone was seated he began. "Thank you all for attending, I know your all itching for some leave but there's a couple things I'd like to address first." Ben said. "Firstly I'd like you all to join me in a moment of silence to honor Lieutenant Kevras, his sacrifice will not be forgotten." Ben let his head drop in silence, he'd waited for the last possible second to enter the wormhole hoping they could somehow pull Kevras out. Loosing someone under your command wasn't easy, contacting Kevras's family was difficult as well. Sanok's words still rang in his head, the need of the many..... After a couple minutes had passed he raised his head once again and raised his glass. "To fallen comrades." After everyone echoed his toast he moved on with the meeting. "Ensign Anderson," He said "front and center." (reply Anderson) "Ensign I've contacted BUPERS on your behalf and they are in agreement." He said taking the box of the table and opening it, he reached up and removed the hollow pip from her collar and replaced it with a solid one. "I hereby promote you tothe rank of Ensign senior grade with all the privileges and responsibilities there in, further more I appoint you as the Cheif Medical Officer aboard the USS Rosenante. Congratulations Ensign." Ben shook her hand. (reply Anderson) When Ailyn had returned to her seat Ben moved to the next promotion. "Lieutenant Jackson, front and center." (reply Jackson) "Lieutenant Jackson," Ben said. "I've contacted BUPERS on your behalf, given your recent performance they had no objections to you advancing." Ben removed a hollow pip from his box and attached it to Tom's collar. "I hereby promote you to the rank of Lieutenant Commander with all the privileges and responsibilities there in. Congratulations Lieutenant Commander." Ben shook Tom's hand, he had earned it despite his Uncles interference in the past. (reply Jackson) Once Tom had returned to his seat Ben moved to the last promotion on his list, there were several others who were deserving but politics prevented their advancement for now. "Lieutenant Commander Sanok, front and center." Ben said. (reply Sanok) "I've contacted BUPERS concerning your recent conduct and the performance of your duties, they have agreed to advance you in rank." Ben said and removed the hollow pip from his collar and replaced it with a solid pip from the box. "I hereby promote you to the rank of Commander with all the privileges and responsibilities there in. Congratulations Commander. Ben shook Sanok's hand. (reply Sanok) Ben waited for Sanok to be seated before continuing. "I've placed commendations in all of your service jackets, you all have been awarded the cross of fire for actions above and beyond the call of duty critical to the rescue of the USS Tesla's crew and the Squadron Commanders Commendation for the same." Ben regarded his crew for a second and felt pride for what they had accomplished, they had all volunteered despite great risk to enter the wormhole and find the Tesla crew. No one knew for sure if they would be returning but they went anyway, he assumed this was the pride every Captain had for his crew. "I've received transfer request from Ensigns Alicia Michaels and Spark." Ben stated. "I've approved their transfers and their belongings will be transferred to the Rosenante once repairs allow. I see they have joined us for the meeting so if you'd all take a couple minutes to welcome them I'll leave you to it." (reply any) When the meet and greet had run it's course Ben called for everyone's attention again. "Now with that taken care of I'll turn to the leave." Ben said. "Repairs are progressing on the Rose but the Dock Master informed me they have a bit of a back log so it seems we're grounded for a while so to speak. If there are no concerns anyone wants to address I suggest you all take some time off and have a little fun for a change." (reply ALL) (posted by Milo Young) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Conference Lounge - Lieutenant Gan Nolar, 1003) His conversation with his superior, Lieutenant-Commander Matrix, had been rather short. He had heard there was a staff meeting at 1000. Based on the conversation with Admiral Jordan, he doubted Captain Some and Commander Sanok had been warned on time of his affectation, so he doubted he was invited to the meeting. However, he had also heard between branches, Cardassians were particularly good at eavesdropping, that there would also be a speech about the lost of Lieutenant Tho'var Kevras. Gan being called to replace him as ACEO, he was curious to know what kind of man he was, and what would the crew, and more especially his commanding officers would have to say about him. Ironically, he had heard that the death of someone was one of the rare occasion when Humans complimented another. Gan considered that hypocrisy. It was way more useful to complement someone alive. The probability of being promoted was considerably higher...if you do supported the right person. If your mentor was downgraded to glinn, you became less than nothing. To avoid attracting too much attention, Gan decided to be among the last to arrive. With so many people in front of him, listening to what the commanders had to say, he could more easily leave if it was not what he expected. He also took profits of the occasion to analyze the people in the room. As they say, keep your enemy close and your friend even closer. On Cardassia, example of these come in the thousand. His father faith was only one example. Even if the Federation were not used to such plotting, you were never too prudent. Knowledge was, after all, life. You could do so much with knowledge. That was why the Obsidian Order had been the most feared organisation despite having no ship. (Reply no one, but you may, iyw) (Posted by Nick) ----- (SB Geneva - Khitomer Lounge - ACMO Ensign (jg) Ailyn Andersen - Day 1 - 1005) Ailyn was playing with her tricorder in her hands nervously, a few others looked at her way, but she continued doing it. Only several minutes passed since she got inside, with her coffee, she drank in mere seconds, took a seat and waited for the meeting to start, when Rosenante's CO - Ben Soma, and FO - Sanok entered the lounge. Ailyn always found it fascinating how those two work in tandem. They make up excellent CO and FO, they seem to understand each other without speaking and they usually agree in situations, thinking on the same wavelength. She thought for a second, figuring this was a bit odd, as she would expect a Captain would take an FO that is completely different and would challenge him, providing a contrasting aspect of ideas - certainly that is what she would do, but the two in front really did expose her opinion as flawed because despite they agreed on many things and shared some views, they were still different enough to complement each other - and the crew as a whole, to a competent unit. "Firstly I'd like you all to join me in a moment of silence to honor Lieutenant Kevras, his sacrifice will not be forgotten." said Captain Soma, starting out the silence. She couldn't stop remembering the words from the man earlier, why would he think Kevras survived that? How could he survive something like that? But, if the man suggested it, wouldn't it be safe to assume it is at least a possibility? Ailyn hoped he somehow survived, although the odds did not look in favor. The Captain raised a glass into the air, "To fallen comrades." Ailyn took a glass in her left hand, moving it in front of her, she could see the silhuettes of the Captain and the FO inside of it. She then raised the glass as well, repeating Soma's words in half-whisper, joining others who did it as well. "Ensign Anderson, front and center." Captain said. Ailyn shook her head bringing her eyes back up again, and then checking visually if she heard correct, for a moment looking like she was caught sleeping. She stood up, looking towards the Captain, and the FO at his side, as she took one of the frontal seats, she was directly looking at the Captain and was right in front. "Ensign I've contacted BUPERS on your behalf and they are in agreement." Soma said, and Ailyn raised her eyebrow. What were they agreed on? Is she going for a transfer to a different ship? That would be bad thing at this moment. Instead, Soma took the little box from the table and opened it, removing the pip already on her collar replacing it with the new one. "I hereby promote you tothe rank of Ensign senior grade with all the privileges and responsibilities there in, furthr more I appoint you as the Cheif Medical Officer aboard the USS Rosenante. Congratulations Ensign." Soma finished, shaking her hand. As Ailyn didn't really except this, she just clumsily muttered "Thank you" slowly getting back to her seat. She couldn't really understand what just happened, so she instead decided to concentrate on the rest of the meeting. The next in line was Tom Jackson, a fierce fighter that risked his life more then just once in the last mission, well deserving his promotion. Then it was First Officer Sanok who was called - promoted to Commander. When he was seated again, the Captain continued "I've placed commendations in all of your service jackets, you all have been awarded the cross of fire for actions above and beyond the call of duty critical to the rescue of the USS Tesla's crew and the Squadron Commanders Commendation for the same." with a somewhat proud voice, looking at his crew for a little while after he finished. Ailyn did not really understood why was she promoted exactly. She thought she didn't do a good job at all, but that did not matter anymore. She went over the new pip on her uniform with her fingers, it felt just like the old one. She is a CMO now, it meant she had to question her own orders to the crew twice just to be sure the things she does are right, there wouldn't be anyone else correcting her. It was a responsibility, specially because of the nature of her post, one wrong call for a Doctor, and it's a possible life on her hands. She felt ready for it, although she also acknowledged that out there, on the ship, in the space, nothing is for certain. She could only give her best. "Now with that taken care of I'll turn to the leave. Repairs are progressing on the Rose but the Dock Master informed me they have a bit of a back log so it seems we're grounded for a while so to speak. If there are no concerns anyone wants to address I suggest you all take some time off and have a little fun for a change." Soma said. "Sir, yes, sir." she said, she didn't really have anything to report, and so much things to do. And then it struck her, what is going to happen with her in this time off is definitely not something she'd call fun, and she'd prefer it more that she was back on ship, far away from home. After all, the Rose started feeling like a home away from home, anyway. She caught both Sanok and Jackson close to each other, so she took this time to congratulate them for their promotions. "Congratulations, sirs. Er, is it just me or is anyone except me planning on some kind of a adventure or trip?" she said smiling from ear to ear. (Reply: Sanok and/or Jackson) "Thank you, it is definitely a privilege." she explained, holding tighter to her glass. (Reply: Sanok and/or Jackson) "Oh, I would but, I actually have something to do as well. Nothing fancy, sorry." she explained in a friendly manner. Then, slightly stretching her hands, and almost yawning, she excused herself from the duo and slipped out of the lounge, despite the fact most were still in. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Lani) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Lounge, ASO Thomas C'Nell, Day 1, 1007) C'Nell joined the toast he thought of that man; he had known him for only a few hours but he had worked with him when he died. He knew he had protected the Rose, he had got them free. He had left him though perhaps if he had stayed his senior would have survived... Vulcans where above grief. His mother, his adopted one had always said it wasn't bad to show emotions, but that went against the laws of his blood society; so it was that when the toast to fallen comrades was echoed a single tear was shed; C'Nell knew loss; His mother, whom he had never known; his father who had disowned him. Now Kevras-he shed a single tear; a single tear for those he had lost. Nothing more. He looked to Signos as it fell; he wondered if he had done the right thing; his actions may have saved her but killed Kevras had he really put the need of the many above the few? or even the one? Was his actions in saving the officer he had met and worked with who he knew better if only by a few hours; who he had thought needed to survive been worth it. He realised he had stared for an extended period. He lowered his gaze he hoped she hadn't notice his thoughts; he wasn't looking at her. He had been looking through. (Reply Signos iyw) He barely listened to the Captains words about an award. It was meaningless to him; it was all about his actions-should it have been Kevras standing there and not Jessica? He was the last to see the man. Perhaps he should... "Now with that taken care of I'll turn to the leave." Ben said. "Repairs are progressing on the Rose but the Dock Master informed me they have a bit of a back log so it seems we're grounded for a while so to speak. If there are no concerns anyone wants to address I suggest you all take some time off and have a little fun for a change." C'Nell realised he needed to do something with the shore leave as the meeting ended he caught up with his CO. "Sir, I was the last to see Kevras alive" said C'Nell he didn't know why-it was illogical; the CO had read his report. (Reply Soma iyw) "I was considering visiting them or at least contacting them; perhaps discuss how they died, I realise I did not know the man but my adoptive mother was human, she said that humans and other species found solace in knowing such information. I...I do not grieve obviously that would be illogical" he said the last words with a catch in his voice "If you do not believe it appropriate or needed please assign me some minor work, you must have seen that I have some basic engineering knowledge perhaps I could work as a technician or keep an eye on things; anything I just have no need of leave other than to comfort others as they grieve" C'Nell tried to be confident; he was Vulcan. They were not hindered by trivial things "Of course I am above such...things but-" (Reply Soma) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (SB Geneva, Kitomer Lounge, ATAC Ensign(sg) Jessica Signos, Day 1, 1013) "Hello Jessica. Good to see you up and around" Tom replied. "Nice work on the last mission by the way." "It's good to be around, but I wish I could of done more." Jessica spoke softly as the lounge filled. Jackson might of replied but at precisely 1000hrs the Captain and Sanok entered the room. The meeting went very much as everyone expected a moment of silence was observed for the crew's loss and their sacrifice. Then the officers that the captain and FO deemed worthy of promotions were promoted. Jessica was happy for those who were so trusted to be given the additional responsibility from Captain Soma. Jessica tried not to be envious of those who were called, because deep down she knew she would no be one of them. She knew her past would forever haunt and stall her career in star fleet. Jessica also knew she was bound here, if she left she would be arrested for Lily's crimes, and turned over to star fleet intelligence to be dissected. Or she could be returned to Section 31 they would with out question use her like the weapon she was developed to be. The thoughts continued to flow though her mind, were deep and troubling. She knew that C'nell was looking though her lost in his own thoughts, having his own mental battle. Maybe it would of been better if he left her on the station to die. At least then the terrible legacy of the assassin Lily would of been put to an end. The meeting continued has news was made that the Rose was getting a few new faces. Then it made the turn to some leave and down time. The concept struck Jessica hard. What was she going to do? She had little in the way of friends, and no family to go visit. It was times like these that made her realize just how alone in the grand scheme of things she was. Her last visit to the station was not a fond memory, she knew the captain was still in the dark about those events. Section 31 had come for her then but failed, now they have come for her again better prepared, had gotten what they needed. Would they now leave her alone, Jessica was unsure. She waited for the gathered to leave, already people were talking about where they would go and who they would spend there time with. She exit the room after the gathered mob hoping to catch up with the captain in the halls. She figured he would be on his way to see Marah, and start a little down time for themselves. She waited till C'nell finished with the captain and walked off before she approached him. "Sir," Jessica asked softly. "If I may borrow a moment of your time." (reply Soma) "It's about the last time the Rosenate was here," She sighed telling Soma the tale of how she was kidnapped from her room, tortured, and eventually rescued. She told him of the risk Captain Salid went though to ensure her safety. She told him how S31 came for her in the dead of the night while she was being questioned about the last mission, and that by the time she was allowed to leave it would of been pointless to alert station security. It was in her opinion that Section 31 would not act so boldly nor would they left her wonder the station freely if they thought her a threat to the Section 31 operation taking place on the station. Falling in step next to the Captain she walked with him. "Captain, I was wondering how do you see me?" She asked softly then continued." Am I a trusted member of your crew, a Section 31 agent, or a living weapon?" it was a question that had been plaguing her mind for some time, but not one best suited for when they are on duty. "I'm sorry I don't mean to be so forward with this, there is just no better way to ask it. I know my past and my actions can tend to make things difficult." (reply Soma) They were coming up unto the main promenade deck Jessica's quarters were just on the other side. Her pace slowed as she weighed the Captains words carefully. "No offense Sir, I've been told that before. That if I learn how to control Lily, that if i cross my t's and dot my i's I can make a great and long career in star fleet but I don't see it. Just look at how long I've been on the Rosenate, and it seems nothing as changed. If anything it has gotten harder. Tell me honestly, is their any way someone can look at my past and judge me with out prejudice." (reply Soma) "I don't mean to spoil your downtime and I know you have a special someone to get back to, I just wanted to give you something to think about. I needed to clear my mind just as much as I needed to hear what you had to say on the matter." Jessica spoke her voice was soft even toned, what the agent had told her had shaken her and she needed to hear it from someone else, no matter what was said. She had to know was she only a living weapon, or was there still a small glimmer of hope that one day she could find happiness. (reply Soma) (posted by Matthew Locke) ----- (SB Geneva, Khitomer Lounge, FO/CSec Cmdr. Sanok, Day 1, 1014) Sanok knew Tom Jackson and Doctor Andersen were going to be promoted; he had recommended to Ben that they be, but he had not expected a promotion of his own. He had even allowed Ben to shake his hand, though Vulcans didn't like to be touched. After the short briefing ended, and congratulations were given, Sanok followed Ben out of the lounge, only to be met by Ensign Signos. "Sir. If I may borrow a moment of your time." Signos' tone was soft, and she seemed to want to speak with Ben alone, but Sanok made no overtures about leaving his friend's side. He still did not fully trust her. "Yes, Ensign. What can I do for you?" said Captain Soma. "It's about the last time the Rosenante was here." After a sigh, Signos told the story of when Section 31 had kidnapped and tortured her, and about Captain Salid, and a few others, launching a dangerous rescue mission to free her. At the time, Sanok and Ben were away, finding and rescuing Marah. She also told them about being questioned by an S31 operative during the Hikani mission debriefing. Sanok and Ben knew about the kidnapping. When Salid was reassigned suddenly, he had left an encrypted file for Ben to read, and Ben had shown it to Sanok. They did not know about the other incident. This was, of course, troubling news. "Thank you for telling me this," said Soma. There was a pause before Signos spoke again, changing to a different topic. "Captain. I was wondering. How do you see me? Am I a trusted member of your crew, a Section 31 agent, or a living weapon? I'm sorry. I don't mean to be so forward with this. There is just no better way to ask it. I know my past, and my actions can tend to make things difficult." Sanok knew how he would answer. He had once told Signos that he did not trust her, and in fact, felt she should be put off the Rosenante. He had also promised her, that if she was ever a danger to the ship or crew, he would stop her by any means necessary. However, Captain Salid said that Signos was one of his crew, and she deserved the same considerations and protection as any other member. Sanok had gone along with this out of respect to Salid, but he always kept an eye on Signos. "You are a member of the crew of the Rosenante," said Soma. "I value you as much as anyone. The thing is, your past is part of you and that can't be changed." "No offense, sir, I've been told that before, that if I learn how to control Lily, that if I cross my t's and dot my i's, I can make a great and long career in Starfleet, but I don't see it. Just look at how long I've been on the Rosenante, and it seems nothing as changed. If anything, it has gotten harder. Tell me honestly, is there any way someone can look at my past and judge me with out prejudice." Sanok waited for Ben to respond. They had discussed Signos, and Sanok knew exactly how Ben felt about her. Sanok had made his position clear as well. "That depends on the person," said Soma. "Everyone is different. All you can do is your best. You can't control what others think or feel." "I don't mean to spoil your down time," said Signos, "and I know you have a special someone to get back to. I just wanted to give you something to think about. I needed to clear my mind, just as much as I needed to hear what you had to say on the matter." Ben nodded and Signos walked away, melting into the throng on the main promenade. "I will continue to watch her carefully," said Sanok. Of that, there was no doubt. He was please the captain had followed his suggestion to have Dr. Anderson promoted. He wanted to explain to the Ailyn why she now was chief medical officer. She was a brave, competent officer and earned her elevation. As the congratulations subsided. Tom made his way to her side. Dahlia joined her husband. She knew Tom was glad to see all his shipmates promoted. She was especially pleased by his promotion. He had earned it solely on his ability. Making his own way was extremely important to Herman. "Well done Ailyn" they said. (Reply: Doc) Tom went on to explain her elevation to CMO. "You're the new CMO for two reasons - first, you are qualified and second Dr. Rixx recommended you". (Reply: Anderson) "He really wanted to be a teaching Doctor at the Academy. He got his wish and Captain Soma approved his transfer" Jackson added. "Thank you. Congratulations as well. I just don't know why I have been made Chief so early." she said almost giggling. "You're the new CMO for two reasons - first, you are qualified and second Dr. Rixx recommended you" explained Tom. "I will not let his trust down, but, what happens to Dr Rixx now?" she asked. "He really wanted to be a teaching Doctor at the Academy. He got his wish and Captain Soma approved his transfer" Jackson answered. "No doubt the Academy is getting a great teacher. He will be missed here, though." she finished. Before Tom could say anything, the twins came to him, saying "daddy, daddy" and hugging their dad. Ailyn smiled, it was a nice thing to see Jackson so happy, he looked almost as a new man in this particular moment. Ailyn was happy for Tom, he was a good man, and deserved to have a good family. She, however, wasn't really sure if she'll ever have a family of her own. Although she was qualified to even be pediatrician, she did not feel very comfortable with kids, she was bad at it. She admired people like Tom, even despite his line of duty, his everyday doings, he still finds not only time but will and patience for his twins. After she was done drinking, she put the glass on the table, headed out of the lounge. She nodded to few people in between that said their congratulations, and with the mind set to go to cargo bay 3, she entered the turbolift, stating her desired deck to the computer, and in dozen of seconds, she arrived at her destination. It took her only a handful of minutes walking in a slow pace to get to cargo bay 3, it was still less then 1030 so she came a bit early, turning around to check if someone's tailing her, she went right in. The cargo bay 3 seemed half-empty, there definitely didn't seem to be any activity going inside it. She walked around, trying to find a suitable place to wait for the contact, but when she turned behind a couple of larger crates, something jolted her neck, and in the second she couldn't feel her legs, dropping on the floor, the last thing she saw before closing her eyes was a shadow of a person behind her. Tom Jackson, normally a slightly dour young man, reported to the CO. “Yes Sir?” Tom asking in a questioning tone. Ben, Tom and Sanok were fast friends. The captain looked at his second officer and spoke. “Tom, I have decided to name Steve Matrix as 3rd Officer. I have just gotten BuPers approval to do so. I would like you to let Steve know. I’d do it but I am scheduled to head to Earth in about two minutes. I asked you because I know Steve and you are good friends” Ben explained. “Sure thing skipper – he’s a good man and I’ve know him a long time. He was my best man when Dahlia and I married” Jackson added. “Thanks Tom – see you soon” Soma said and left to catch his transport. Dahlia had her arms full of twins and came over and handed him Hope. She kissed Tom and asked “What’s up Tom”. Tom explained the Captain’s decision. Dahlia was close to Steve as Tom was. She neamed and said “Outstanding move – Ben is smart” and laughed heartily. Tom nodded and laughed too! (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill W.) ----- (Starbase Geneva, aCMO Ensign (sg) Momrea, Day 1, 1120) The universe could be a very cold and lonely place for a woman trapped between two worlds. Momrea was reminded of that fact in so many new faces she encountered her first day walking through Geneva. People's eyes brushed over the faint tell-taling ridges of her brow and forehead that signified her half-Romulan heritage. Some reacted with understandable curiosity; afterall, neither Romulans nor their half-breed children frequented Federation starbases. Other reactions were less than accepting. A couple of Andorians twitched their antenae in notable suspicion as they passed her through a corridor on her way to the promenade. Hardly one minute later, a Tellarite with some kind of lubricant streaked across his jumpsuit had growled at her then delivered a particularly caustic insult. It was the same wherever she went - except on a Federation starship it seemed. Starfleet officers were a breed apart from the rest of the known galaxy, which was one of the reasons she was looking forward to her first ship assignment. She considered herself a fortunate woman. Her universe was not so solitary as others of dual nature similar to her. Being a hybrid child could be difficult in any environment, but having spent most of her childhood on Starfleet vessels (since age seven) had been an advantage most other children of similar nature did not share. People tended to be more open-minded on a starship. They had to be, of course, because of the nature of that kind of life. The kind of acceptance she'd found there had been a stark contrast to the environment she'd endured through the first six years of her life at the asylum on Romulus even if it had been one of the better facilities, designated for the “gifted and talented” infants. Being a hybrid on the Romulan homeworld was usually a death sentence unless a baby had a Romulan parent of high position or if the child tested out to show potential for high intelligence. The latter had spared her life. She knew little about her father except in the fact that some of attendants told that her father had deliberately abandoned her and wanted nothing to do with her. Usually this was a disciplining tool to remind her to behave because "dirty little hybrids" were only tolerated. This had of course led to taunts from other children -- larger, older orphans who knew how to bully their way up through the pecking order. After being rescued from the orphanage and smuggled into Federation space she was shuffled through two sets of foster parents over a few months before ending up with her aunt, T'Pon, a ship's doctor. After T'Pon nursed her through the initial fear and general bitterness toward the universe she often expressed, Momrea had found many people in Starfleet could be very open and friendly, even kind-hearted. In fact, certain members of the crew on the USS Archer had made a deep impression on her during the five years her aunt had served as chief medical officer on that ship. But through it all, after her rescue from the orphanage, and the rather hard transition into Federation life on Vulcan, followed by her stints on multiple ships with T'Pon, she was now a trained physician and a Starfleet officer on her way to her first assignment. She loved her work. Though her Romulan temper tended to strain social relationships, she could be charming enough in a friendly environment and knew how to work well with patients in an infirmary or the sickbay of a ship; but in less controlled situations, where people wanted to be confrontational, her Romulan nature overpowered the Vulcan half, and so her PATIENCE sometimes came up lacking. She mulled through the crowd on the promenade. As she approached a turbo-lift, a group of young girls, the oldest couldn't have been more than seventeen, watched her approach with unfriendly eyes, but they looked away from the icy glare Momrea gave in return. They giggled and gabbled among themselves in quiet tones, trying not to look at the Romulan - and trying not to make it obvious that they weren't looking at her. Momrea turned away as she waited on the lift. Another big difference between a starship like the Archer and a starbase like Geneva, she seldom had to wait on a lift aboard the former. Looking back at the swarms of beings moving throughout the promenade of Geneva, she observed another difference. There were so many different species represented on a starbase. There had been a variety of beings on the Archer and other ships, but not such a broad representation as she was looking at that moment. The lift door finally swooshed open, and she turned again to enter, stepped back to allow the two passengers to exit (two young humans dressed in Engineering uniforms) then entered as she returned a friendly smile one of the two directed at her. "Transporter room, please," she said as the doors closed. "Please specify," said the computer's voice. "There are..." "The closest one," Momrea amended quickly. There was barely a sensation of movement as the lift car darted through the maze of conduits toward its destination. That was another difference. On the Archer, there had been no sensation of moving at all on the lift. She wondered if the inertial dampeners were working in proper order. (posted by David) ----- (Starbase Geneva, Ensign (sg) John Fredericks, Day 1, 1121) John had woken up like he had in the beginning right after the “accident” his fist thrown out hard in front of him. First had come the bright burst of light, then feeling the fiery heat and concussion wave of the explosive. Then came the long head spinning drop of the shuttle and the mind numbing pain in his left arm or what was left of it and then as always he woke up as the shuttle had hit the surface of the little planetoid. John lay still, the cold sweat drying on his skin while letting his heart beat slow down using the calming techniques his Betazoid instructors had drilled into him back when he was much younger. They hadn’t really worked on him then and didn’t really work with him now but it was the sense of familiarity that helped finally slow his racing heart. He opened his eyes to the roof of the tiny alcove that was his sleeping chamber on Geneva station. “Well” he had thought to himself. “at least I’m not denting the thing anymore” That was a problem he had had since the “accident”. After the shuttle had slammed to a stop John had found himself pinned into place at the console his mangled, burned arm twisted and pinned to his side and unable to free himself as the atmosphere slowly hissed out into the thinner one of the small planet. The feelings of claustrophobia haunted him now for a second or so every time he woke from that dream. Just that one dream and never at any other time. The counselors had done wonders with him though as had the surgeons. The surgeons they had gotten him to were to simply put it, amazing. The best Star Fleet had to offer. John stepped out of the alcove and walked to the small wash area in the small room he was in on the station. He could have had a larger one but as he was a somewhat Spartan person he saw no need to occupy a larger set of rooms when this sufficed. He again looked over his naked torso at where the synthetic flesh joined the real at the star shaped scarring that was the only apparent outward view of his new cybernetic arm. “Yes”, he thought to himself, “The surgeons were amazing, so had been the engineering department” John showered and got cleaned up and dressed into the uniform for his new ship assignment, packed a small bag and picked up his bat’leth. He had the rest of his stuff tagged for transit. The Bat’leth carried himself. It was a prized possession. Once ready to go he picked up his bag and slung the Bat’leth in its carrier over his back He checked his PADD and saw that time was a bit short so skipped over breakfast, he was too excited to eat anything anyway. He walked to the first set of lifts down the hallway and pressed the call button and waited for it to admit him. The door soon whooshed open and he entered to join a small group of young girls. They were cute in a way but very immature and spent most of the short trip giggling amongst themselves and sneaking glance at him. Fortunately the girls stop was close by and after giving his destination he was able to continue the final several seconds in relative peace. The lift arrived with just touch of a lurch. ~Odd~ John thought. ~These didn’t normally display any sense of movement. Maybe something was out of whack.~ It was a bit beyond him though as other than a basic maintenance of his arm what he knew about engineering would starve a tribble. John stepped into the corridor and after looking at the markers found he way to the closest Transporter. He stepped up the pace and arrived at the entrance in time to see a familiar woman walking towards him. (posted by Kirk) ----- (SB Geneva, Transporter Room, Ens. (sg) John Fredericks, Ens. (sg) Momrea, Day 1, 1135) He laughed quietly to himself remembering the first time he had seen her face looking into his as he began to wake up and found himself looking into the eyes of a young Romulan woman. He had fought the bed straps as hard as he could with his one remaining arm and might even had disturbed a Earth fly with the amount of effort he had been able to muster. She had pushed him back with a couple of fingers. The effort expended though had pushed him back into that dark happy place where things didn’t hurt, arms weren’t missing and strange Romulan women weren’t staring at you. He had learned later that Momrea wasn’t a normal Romulan but a crossbreeding of Romulan and Vulcan. She had worked with him for a while and then moved on to other things and was absolutely the last person he thought to see here. John held out his hand in what he thought was at least close to the Vulcan greeting with his fingers split into that awkward “V” shape with the thumb extended. “Greetings Momrea. Come to see me off to the Rosenante? I didn’t know you were keeping an eye on me still. “ She returned the greeting, mildly amused by the obvious human arrogance in his assumption that she was “keeping and eye” on him after so long although her face remained characteristically placid. "I didn't know you were assigned to the Rosenante, also. For that matter, I didn't know you had completed physical therapy." Her eyes moved over the prosthetic arm and other body parts that had been inured. She had been involved peripherally in the reconstruction of Frederick’s tortured and shattered body some months ago, under the supervision of more experienced surgeons. “Well” he replied “ I don’t know that you would call it completed. Let’s just say it has gone as far as it will go. What’s left is just learning how to control this thing. I almost never have any problems with it but every now and then a stray thought goes out and I wind up scratching my ear or something.” “Well, we better get over there, great to hear that you’re on board too. It will be nice to see a “friendly face” he said with a small lopsided grin as he needled the young woman trying to get a response from her. She seldom smiled, but her mouth crooked slightly at his dry humor. After waiting a second he turned and spoke to the transporter office. “Two to beam over to Rosenante” Momrea waited as the familiar haze of light and the tingle of the transporter effect swept over her. (Reply: any) (Posted by David and Kirk) ----- (SB Geneva, Promenade deck, ATAC Ensign(sg) Jessica Signos, Day 1, 1215) Jessica sat listening to the conversation of people passing by she had already ordered a hot tea and sipped happily from her glass the steam rising from the tea cup tickling her nose. She was looking over a PADD it seemed two more fresh faces would be joining the crew of the Rose. She studied their personnel files looking for anything suspicious. Something she did with all the crew, She knew her darkness and she cared little for seeing another S31 agent so close to her as sharing the same ship as home. She wondered, with Captain Soma now gone for leave for undetermined amount of time. Jessica only figured it would be a matter of time before Sanok was made Captain would Sanok order Jessica from the Rosenante. The addition of the new security officer only made her wonder, has did the conversation with Soma earlier. It was apparent that Sanok had been talking to Soma about her and her position on the Rose. His answers were political neutral, and that gave Jessica a troubling thought Soma was more supportive of her in the past but things seemed to be changing rapidly now. ~What else could I've done to prove myself.~ She wondered. ~Indeed, what else could you of done.~ Lily answered. ~ you could of died.~ ~You not helping~ Jessica replied with more bite in her voice than normal. ~Your not helping either, whatever happens you've done your best and whatever happens next happens. We'll deal with it one problem at time.~ Jessica nodded to that logic, when a woman joined her table. There was a striking resemblance between the two. The other woman's long white hair, made Jessica think of her late mother. For she was he spitting image of her. "Who are you and what do you want." Jessica asked making her apparent dislike known. "Call me Jasmine, and yes I'm one of yours and work for the same people you once did..." She sighed before continuing knowing she would have to tell Jessica everything. "There are others on the Rosenate that are after the Signos thread. I know this because I'm the one that leaked that information." Jessica was taken back by this information, why would she do that. It was the kind of statement that got ones attention and held it. Jessica now listened intently allowing the girl before her to continue. "It was shortly after you returned from the mission with the borg. S31 knew they had to accelerate plans if they were gonna be able to build a force that could undermine the Federation. Everything that concerned you was deemed classified at the highest level. I stole and cracked those files. If S31 ever learns of this my life will be forfeit. When I learned what was done to you. What was being done to us I knew S31 had to be stopped. Not only for you but our own future. Lily they're building an army, based on the Signos thread...." She let her last commit hang there knowing what the repercussions would not be lost on Jessica or Lily. "So why tell me all this." Jessica replied eying the woman before her. "Don't you see this will only end when either everyone has free access to the thread or the thread is destroyed. Its not in our nature to kill our own. But if we can overthrow the nest and take it..."She was cut off by Jessica. "You'll have the power base to stop anyone else from seeking that knowledge. How do I know our intentions are honest and that once you take the station you wont use it to start your own wars." Jessica responded now interested in the conversation. Jasmine slid a PADD across the table. She allowed Jessica to read to contents before she spoke confirming what was written in the device. "We plan on opening political relations with the federation to acknowledge us has our own state. If they agree to this we will obey federation law." Jessica nodded slowly. taking a sip of her tea before it had a chance to cool much more. "Another thing a member of the Rosenante was taken off station. A S31 operative watched her leave the station in the aftermath four enemy agents were killed. The S31 operative was wounded and later killed by another sister. The operative threatened to tell the Raven's Nest that you had been compromised. Something we could not let happen." Jasmine continued. There was silence for a moment Jessica and Lily taking a moment to absorb what was being said it was clear that S31 had been busy but so was Jasmine and her sisters there was a possibility that they could succeed in their plans "One final thing before I go." Jasmine spoke placing a relatively large box on the table. "A gift and an old friend." She spoke motioning to the box, before standing and quickly disappearing into the crowd. Jessica opened the box slowly before closing it quickly when she realized what was laid inside. Tears welled up in her eyes, after her parents died she had to blades made her parents crystallized remains were mounted with the blades. The twin blades, were solid black they were different because they were able to be mounted to her arms the handle of the blade coming from the back side of the blade. During her time has Lily they were her signature weapon, just a simple look at those hellish blades could bring fear. To Jessica she felt like having a piece of her arm restored. (reply none) (posted by Matthew Locke) ----- (SB Geneva - Holodeck 5 - Day 1, 1300 LCDR Steven Matrix, CEO 1300) Matrix had spent nearly and hour and a half talking with his parents on Earth over subspace communication before the signal suddenly broke up and closed. It wasn't entirely unexpected as there were reports of several solar phenomenon causing communication problems between the vast expanse between the Geneva and Earth. He enjoyed seeing his parents after nearly a year without anything but short notes and photos of their travels. Both were off to Raina 3 in a few days to enjoy the Great Ruins and to embark on an anticipated three-month journey to visit the Vulcan home world and several Federation capitals along the way. Slightly more energized by the remote visit, Matrix decided to endure some holodeck time to perfect a few programs he had been working on in his spare time. Today he was going to go back in time to experience something he was fascinated with since reading about it as a child; throughout sub-school and had studied extensively while at the Academy. A specific slice of Earth history and during a time of much less technical sophistication. Being a qualified command pilot Matrix always wanted to try his hand at flying something much more demanding physically and perhaps, mentally. The holodeck was devoid of any substance while Matrix stood outside control panel. A few moments passed as the Geneva's computers made the request to pull the information from his personal files aboard the Rose. He pondered if the Rose's computer systems would be accessible, not knowing if her systems may have been shutdown for the current repair work. A moment later the computer made the transfer acknowledgement and Matrix meticulously brought up a catalog of holodeck programs under the name of "TAC-Earth 2015." "Computer run program Matrix-TAC-2015-Intro." [Program loading complete. You may enter when ready.] was the reply. The doors of the holodeck opened and Matrix stepped inside. The roar of jet aircraft filled the air. Matrix looked skyward and identified three fast moving planes traveling directly over the air field. He smiled. Turning to the hanger, Matrix too the short walk to the command post, passing several pilots as he entered the pilot's locker room. Changing into the flight suit of the time, Matrix walked back to the command desk and signed out his aircraft. The young Air Force officer handed him a flight case with today's mission pre-programmed on a cartridge he would insert into the jet's on board computer. "Sir, you jet is ready on the flight line. Your crew chief is waiting for you now. Good luck and good hunting sir!" Matrix gave a snappy solute to the Lieutenant and made his way to the flight line. The jet was known as the "Eagle," specifically an F-15G. The canopy was up, chalk lines still tethered to the plane's wheels. The smell of jet fuel was in the air moved by a gentle breeze on a hot and clear day. The temperature was hovering around 100 degrees on the fight line, amplified by the dark concrete that was soaking up the sunshine in a cloudless sky. "Good afternoon Chief" said Matrix to the crew chief as he returned the solute. "Good afternoon Major...your bird is armed, fueled and ready. I've done the pre-flight check sir...you need to get into the air as quickly as possible." replied the Master Sergeant. "Thank you chief." replied Matrix as he climbed up the ladder and took his place in the cockpit. As Matrix looked over the complex and archaic instrument panel while the Master Chief ensured he was strapped in properly and had armed the ejection seat. A few moments later the chief gave the thumbs up and climbed down the ladder and secured it back inside the Eagle's panels. Matrix looked out to his left, then his right and put his right arm outside the cockpit giving the Chief the thumbs up indicating he was ready to start the jet. Matrix then started engine one, then engine two a second later. The whine of the Pratt & Whitney F-135 engines filled the air. Two green lights on the status console in the cockpit glowed green and showing idle at 10% thrust. Instinctively Matrix pressed the canopy button and the glass wind screen closed and locked within a few seconds. Matrix gave a solute and moved the throttle controls to 25% briefly to get the big jet moving. ~Oh this is going to be fun.~ thought Matrix as he taxied the jet to the runway threshold and held short. "Eagle 107 you are cleared for take off runway 6...winds out of 010 at 10 knots. Good hunting sir!" said the faceless voice. "Eagle 107 cleared for take off." replied Matrix. ~Lets see what this baby can do.~ through Matrix. (Reply none) (Posted by Steve) ----- (SB Geneva - Holodeck 5 - Day 1, LCDR Steven Matrix, CEO 1421) The F-15SE Eagle roared off the runway and within minutes Matrix joined a flight of three other Eagles assigned as CAP for the mission. The flight leader was Colonel Mark "Fess" Piper and Matrix was assigned as his wing man. The two other pilots in the flight were Captain Mike "Moose" Hill and Lieutenant Robert "Wedge" Leer. Matrix had never met any of them, but since he wrote the holodeck program he programmed their traits and abilities, but let the computer indulge aggressiveness, attitude and circumstances as the program unfolded. "Flight lead, Major "Buckeye" Matrix on your left wing and little low." said Matrix over the radio. "Good to have you with us Major...finally...she wouldn't start or did you get up late?" asked Moose. Matrix smiled, but didn't reply. "Okay you slackers. Keep the chatter down. New heading...045 Angles 30. AWACS reported enemy SU-27s in the area and have already shot down six Vipers, two Eagles and one Raptor with no losses in 10 days. These guys are good. If we engage Buckeye and I will take lead. Wedge and Moose will take secondary targets. If we get separated and taking losses bug out and head home. Live to fight another day." said Fess. The four Eagles turned to their new heading and could hear AWACS directing them to no less than six unidentified targets nearly 160 miles ahead of them and closing fast. Fess ordered the flight into a staggered 'finger-four' formation to get a better look at their adversaries. Their APG-82 radar looking out in the distance air space. The F-15SE was the latest variant of the Eagle to be deployed and hadn't yet been tested in combat. The SE incorporated a new stealth technology that would help hide it from enemy ground and air radar and was more maneuverable than any previous F-15s in production. It was even considered more maneuverable than the newer F-16 variants already deployed in the region and had over double the thrust. Matrix rolled out left of Fess and turned his radar. Within moments the six blips were identified as SU-27s as reported. The information was automatically relayed to the other aircraft. A few moments later Wedge's radar reported eight SU27s, not six. By that time the distance between the two opposing flights was only 80 miles. Fess broke radio silence and ordered Moose and Wedge to take the fourth group of two to the West of their position. Fess and Buckeye rolled left and high to get a better angle on the approaching eight fighters. Matrix looked down at his radar and noticed four of the SU-27s broke formation and were heading West likely countering the actions of the Wedge and Moose. If they had been spotted. Matrix's APG radar looked on the trailing SU-27 at 73 miles out and Matrix squeezed the fire button on his flight control. "Fox-3" said Matrix. The AIM-120D left the left wing pillion trailing smoke and disappeared into the distance. At nearly the same time Fess launched another 120D and announced Fox-3 as well. "Buckeye, take high cover and lead on the second flight of two...I'm rolling right and low...lets see if we can break these guys up." said Fess. "Roger, Fess." replied Matrix over the radio. Matrix put the Eagle into full after burners and pulled back on the stick and gained altitude. The APG radar was still tracking his missile and the incoming bandits. At angles 40, Matrix leveled off in time to notice his intended target merge with his missile then both disappeared off the radar screen. Fess's target did the same a few short moments later. ~Six to go.~ thought Matrix, but had hoped Wedge and Moose were having the same impact on their targets. Fess joined up with Matrix after a few moments and they focused on the second flight of two SU-27s still approaching at high speed. It didn't appear that any of the SU-27 Flankers had a fix on the Eagle flight, but had undoubtedly knew that two of their fellow pilots were already shot down. Matrix widened his radar profile and counted only four bandits in the distance now only 45 miles away. His APG-82 identified Wedge and Moose about 22 miles West of their position. That indicated good news as they likely scored kills on their initial bandits. "Buckeye, follow me...I'm going after the lead aircraft on the second flight. You take the second one." ordered Fess. Matrix watched the lead Eagle go to full afterburners and accelerate ahead quickly. Matrix punched up the afterburners in his jet. The raw fuel dump into the combustion chambers produced an impressive 70,000 lbs of thrust, pushing Matrix back in his ejection seat. His G-suit automatically squeezed his legs slightly to push extra blood to his brain. The g-force indicator read 3 as the engines max thrust was attained. A few moments later Fess ordered Matrix to break off as two-flight of SU-27s broke formation and engaged them. Now their foe knew they were fighting a pair of Eagles. Fess rolled out to engage his lead target and Matrix stayed on his wing. The second SU-27 broke right and disappeared out Matrix's view. He wanted to go after him, but knew he should stay with Fess. Fess juked and rolled, matching the SU-27s maneuvers easily. Matrix struggled to stay with Fess and fell out of formation as Fess pulled hard right to stay with the Flanker. Matrix barrel rolled left and down then right and rolled out matching Fess's angle of attack on the adversary. The SU-27 had blundered by increasing his speed and didn't match the g-turn to defeat Fess. That was a mistake and Fess launched a AIM-9 Sidewinder at nearly a mile away. The SU-27 immediately dropped flares and chaff, but the missile kept on track and within a handful of seconds exploded into a blaze of red-yellow flames and smoke. ~Where did that other guy go?~ thought Matrix as his warning system barked of an incoming missile. Instinctively Matrix pulled back hard on the stick and again put the Eagle's engines on full. The counter message systems dumped a series of flares and chat while Matrix tried to ascertain where the second Flanker was. The adversary missile couldn't match the Eagle's turn rate at that close distance and lost lock and broke away. "Bandit on my tail!" said Matrix as he completed a high yo-yo maneuver, then went into a lag roll as he spotted the second Flanker. The SU-27 pilot turned hard into a left turn as Matrix moved into his flight plain about 300 yards behind and a little high. He was too close for a missile shot. The M61 20mm Vulcan cannon could easily shred an aircraft within two-thirds of a mile. At 300 yards the Flanker would be Swiss cheese. Struggling to keep the SU-27 within the gun sights through the HUD system, Matrix's g-suit was squeezing him ever so tight to keep the blood supply in his brain. This was the only thing keeping Matrix from losing consciousness. The g indicator was reading just over 8 now. Matrix put the tracker on the midpoint of the SU-27 and let off a bust of 20mm rounds. Three hundred 20mm rounds left the Vulcan cannon in a blaze of red and orange flames. Matrix watched as tracer rounds walked down the SU-27's left wing leaving a series of holes. A trail of white and red fluid was pouring out of the Flanker. Immediately the SU-27 pilot rolled to his right and slowed down. Matrix pulled back on the throttle and released the Eagle's massive air brake and matched the Flanker's speed. Again the SU-27 pulled hard into a right turn trying to get away. A few second's later Matrix pushed hard on the rudder controls and the twin-rudder of the Eagle forced the Eagle to yaw quickly. Matrix fired another burst of 20mm this time hitting the SU-27 on the right wing and into the main fuselage. Smoke and flames shot out of both of the SU-27s engines. The enemy aircraft slowed immediately as flames crawled up from the back of the aircraft and over its wings moving quickly up to the canopy. Before Matrix processed the kill the SU-27s canopy left the aircraft and a second later the Flanker's ejection seat catapulted the pilot out of the burning and now tumbling Flanker. Matrix felt the adrenaline rush leave his body and he became aware that he was sweating profusely. C'Nell had not been a member of Starfleet back then. He wondered though; what side had he been on? The institution had never been sure of its position. C'Nell had just wanted to focus on his "elitist" studies. There was no need of him here or on the Rose the engineering staff had it all under control. He wasn't needed but that was why he was here. He could be completely ignored here; indeed there was no none-personnel comms. His adopted mother had contacted him; he hadn't really wanted to use his leave to visit her. He was Starfleet now. A new frontier; a new job to do. He didn't have to talk to his past; nor did he have to communicate to the other crew members. They all had family, friends. Such social nonsense. Here C'Nell could be himself. The solitary thinker. He took out his PADD and began to work on some Warp Mechanics he was by no means a navigator or engineer but they were the best way of doing complex mathematical operations which where useful in his field. Tom had found his kids and wife were more wonderful than anything else . Dahlia was so beautiful Tom couldn't believe it. His mom had been right all those years ago. Family what's more important than any material item could ever be! As Tom watched his kids and Dahlia he did something a man of his family never did- he felt a tear rolling down his cheek. Dahlia looked up at her husband and smiled at the man she had loved since heme childhood. "Thomas, you're crying my love" she said as her and the kids came to him. Tom nodded and said "there must be a supreme being somewhere, I have been so blessed" . Jacob reached for dad and gave him a kiss. He touched Toms tear and and looked worried . "It's ok son daddy us very happy. Sometimes men am women cry when happy " he explained to his toddler. Jackson had always talked to the twins and explained things - something his own late father had done. There was something else eating at the back of Tom's mind. For some reason it didn't sit well. He tried to push it out of his mind but his mind refused to key go. He was getting used to wearing command red once again. Was this feeling related to that it something else? He heard a familiar vice call out "Tom, Tom Jackson". Tom looked in the direction of the voice. "Dahlia, it's the captain " he said and with his family . "Hi skipper" he said as he greeted his friend and commander. Ben smiled and replied " Dahlia good to see you again. Keeping Tom out of trouble ?" Dahlia chuckled and said "I try". The four friends laughed enjoying the company of good friends. "Where are you two off to?" Jackson inquired. "To earth to see family " Spma said. "Relax and enjoy the time " Tom added. As they parted Tom felt a cold chill cone over hon. It was a feeling he'd not see Ben again. There were at least two other bandits out there, but they would have to wait another day. "Computer save program progress and end." ordered Matrix. [Acknowledged] The familiar grey and yellow of the standard holodeck emitters replaced the open but cloudy sky of the short air war Matrix had programmed. He stood in the middle of the holodeck still perspiring and the adrenaline rush started to subside. ~Time to get to the Rose.~ thought Matrix. (Reply None) (Posted by Steve) ----- (SB Geneva-Day 1-1445-ASO Thomas C'Nell, 1445) C'Nell thought it was time to leave this area it was simply getting too crowded; and he hated to be a burden to the technicians "inefficacy was the greatest plague" his father had said. His thoughts wandered to his father; "Recently Missing On Federation Duty" it wasn't the first time his scientific exploits had left him missing but the last time had lead to him being raised by an adopted mother. C'Nell entered the turbo lift; he wanted to retry the loci again; He couldn't understand why his mind palace was better in his head than physically before him. "Computer Holodeck" [Acknowledged, Holodeck 5 is now free] The computer said in that mechanical female voice. He exited the turbo lift and to his surprise the Chief Engineer Steven Matrix was standing before him; C'Nell recalled to his mind his manifesto; ~Matrix, Maths Classroom Matrix Bar~. The method worked through recalling the image of a matrices he could remember the mans crew data exactly or at least what access he had to it. "Hello Sir" (Reply Matrix) "I am going to Holodeck 5, I hope to conduct an experiment upon my own psychology" ~He on the other hand wouldn't need to, born and bred Starfleet...~ NRPG: C'Nell has a good memory developed through the Loci technique granted this takes time to come in but he knows Matrix's family through reading the data and adding it to a "Mind Palace" he is always perfecting this method "May I enquire to where you are going?" (Reply Matrix) "You are certainly qualified for it! Have you seen Ensign Maddox or Spark or any of the other science crew? I am hoping to be able to assist them with any duties they may have; I have no need to go on Shore leave-Earth is a good distance away and-" He cut off at the thought of his Father; where he was. He could go to his Adopted Mother she had wanted him; but something stopped him. (Reply Matrix) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (SB Geneva- Holodeck 5 Corridor- 3O/CEO Matrix Day 1-1446) Matrix exited the holodeck 5 still in a sweat from his adventure in the past. Before him stool C'Nell apparently waiting for the holodeck to be available. "Hello Sir" said C'Nell "Good afternoon Ensign where are you off to?" asked Matrix. "May I enquire to where you are going?" asked C'Neil. "I'm off to the Rose to give the new ACEO a tour and review the repairs. I also need to report in as the third officer shortly. I just heard about it." replied Matrix. "You are certainly qualified for it! Have you seen Ensign Maddox or Spark or any of the other science crew? I am hoping to be able to assist them with any duties they may have; I have no need to go on Shore leave-Earth is a good distance away and-" "No I haven't seen Maddox or Spark or any of the other science crew. You might check with the Geneva they should know where everyone is." replied Matrix. "If you need something to do Ensign I'd suggest enjoying your time off." said Matrix as he entered the turbolift. "If you need something to do Ensign I'd suggest enjoying your time off." said Matrix as he entered the turbolift. "Yes Sir, its just-" he trailed off again "I need to busy", it was too distracted too much of his dammed emotions came through ~I AM A VULCAN I SHOULD BE ABOVE THIS NONSENSE~ he knew that Matrix would tell that he was lying, that something was on his mind. The turbolift doors closed on him in silence. C'Nell left for the holodeck. (Reply Matrix iyw) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (Rosenante, Engineering Decks - Lieutenant Gan Nolar, 1500) Taking up on Lieutenant-Commander Matrix proposal to visit the USS Rosenante, Gan had made the necessary arrangement to have someone waiting for him outside. He would have preferred to have Matrix himself leading the visit, but he understood he wanted to go to the holodeck, and didn't wanted to disturb him. Moreover, it was his opinion it was a not superior but a subaltern to do such task. So it was an engineer officer that rather accepted to show to Gan the ship. The visit was quite interesting. Gan was fascinated with what Starfleet had done with the ship. A ship precisely conceive for spying mission was like a phantasm for him. He wanted to know every bit of technology that contributed to such efficient camouflage, and was happy to learn despite being Cardassian, he was authorized to inspect every part of the ship. However, it had been difficult to contain his excitement. He had wanted to test every system, but the ship being in dockyard, it was impossible. Gan had continued his visit with the engineering, visiting the bridge, the deflector room, main engineering, all the jefferies tubes he could think of. He had still a few more hours to continue the visit, so he wanted to take the most of it. (Reply no one) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Rosenante, Deflector Control - LCDR Steven Matrix, CEO - 1503) Matrix was running slightly late and was directed by one of the repair officers that Nolar was in deflector control so he made his way to find Nolar. A few minutes later Matrix spotted the new ACEO. "Lieutenant...sorry I'm late, but I'm glad to see you've started looking around. What have you seen so far, any questions?" asked Matrix (Reply Nolar) "She's a fine ship, that's for sure. The only one in the fleet with spiral drive. We've also made a number of field modifications in the last few missions. As you probably have noticed she took a beating in our last mission...the repairs will be extensive and I've been told that the yard master and Fleet will consider some additions and upgrades while she's here. All that will depend on Star Fleet of course. (Reply Nolar) (posted by Steve)
